Inclement Weather Guidelines
Communication
If games are canceled and/or rescheduled due to inclement weather, Team Managers will be notified as soon as possible through a TeamSideline email and updated on the field line (541) 766-6921.
The field line should be called after 3pm on weekdays and after 12pm on Sundays to check the status of games.
Game Reschedules
Game cancellations due to inclement weather, will be rescheduled when possible and communicated to the Team Managers as soon as possible. The ability to reschedule is dependent upon field/gym availability.
Outdoor sports
Rain
Games may be canceled due to rain when field conditions become unsafe or unplayable. If P&R cancels games due to rain, and the weather improves later in the afternoon, the games will remain canceled.
Officials/umpires will make on-site decisions regarding the game's feasibility. If the umpire initially starts the game but later postpones it due to safety concerns, all scheduled games on that field for the evening will also be postponed.
Outdoor sports
Thunder & Lightning
If lightning is seen or thunder is heard, play must be immediately suspended and the game will be delayed for 30 minutes. Each new occurrence of lightning or thunder resets the 30-minute delay.
If the game is delayed twice, it will be rescheduled.
indoor sports
School Closures
If the district cancels school due to weather, all games that day will be canceled.
Outdoor sports
Excessive Heat
When temperatures rise, the safety and well-being of our participants, and staff remain our top priority. We want to ensure that all sports activities are carried out in a safe and healthy environment.
Temperature & Heat Index
We actively monitor local weather conditions, particularly temperature and heat index, in the lead-up to and during the scheduled games. Temperature is monitored on AccuWeather and heat index is monitored using the OSHA Health Safety Tool.
Risk Assessment
When considering game cancellations, we will take into account the heat index, time of year, time of day and ability to reschedule games. We closely follow the OSAA Heat Index Policy but reserve the right to make year-by-year decisions regarding game cancellations and/or rescheduling of games.
Heat Safety Measures
When games are played in higher temperatures, participants are encouraged to take preventive measures such as frequent hydration, appropriate clothing, and rest in shaded areas during breaks.
What is P&R doing?
When games are played, Site Leaders/Scorekeepers will do their best to have coolers of ice and extra water for players. All P&R Staff are trained on the
signs and symptoms of heat related illnesses.
